If trimming is not done at the right time and method, the tree can weaken and die. Therefore, in this column, I will explain the appropriate time for trimming and how to cut branches. Trimming is one of the essential tasks in caring for garden trees, so if you can master it, you will become even more attached to it.

If you think you can’t run yourself, leaving it to a contractor is one way to keep your garden trees healthy and beautiful. Occasionally use a contractor to grow garden trees well. If you need to cut down or trim a tree, you need to contact a tree removal experts.

Timing is essential for trimming trees:

Trimming is the cutting of tree branches. If trimming is done when the tree is not strong enough, the tree will weaken.

The best time to prune depends on the tree. It may also change depending on the region and the year’s climate, so it is essential to check the characteristics and condition of each tree before trimming. The appropriate trimming time for each type of tree is divided as follows.

    Strong and weak trimming:

There are two types of tree trimming: strong trimming and weak trimming. Strong trimming puts a heavy burden on the tree, such as cutting off thick branches to make the whole smaller. On the other hand, weak trimming is the light trimming that removes fine-tipped branches and unnecessary branches. It is best to perform strong trimming when the tree is strong and weak trimming as needed when the tree is not very strong.

Evergreen tree characteristics and trimming time:

Among the trees with green leaves all year round, those with flat leaves that spread horizontally are called evergreen broad-leaved trees. In general, it is often referred to simply as an evergreen tree.

The best time to prune an evergreen tree is from April to June, when you have enough physical strength just before entering the growing season. Weak trimming should be done from September to October, before the temperature drops in earnest, to the extent that the branches grown during the summer are trimmed.

Evergreens do not shed their leaves even in winter because they store nutrients in their leaves. If the branches are cut, and the number of leaves is reduced in winter when the daylight hours are short, sufficient photosynthesis will not be possible and physical strength will be lost. In addition, since the growth is active in the middle of summer when trimming is performed, the trees grow branches to compensate for the damage, and the tree shape is disturbed. Therefore, avoid trimming in midwinter or midsummer.

Characteristics of deciduous trees and trimming time:

Deciduous trees have leaves that fall in winter. Deciduous trees in winter are saving energy by dropping leaves to survive the cold. The nutrients on the branches are also concentrated on the trunk, so cutting them has no effect. Therefore, contrary to evergreens, strong trimming of deciduous trees is suitable from November to February after the leaves have fallen.

Light trimming can be done in the spring, just before the growing season, or in September-October, when it starts to cool down. If you cut a branch in midsummer, the growing season, sap may leak from the cut end, so avoid trimming.

Characteristics of conifers and trimming time:

Conifers are trees with straight leaves, and there are evergreen conifers and deciduous conifers among the conifers. However, since there are few types of deciduous conifers, generally speaking, conifers often refer to evergreen conifers.

Evergreen conifers are pruned at about the same time as evergreens, but strong trimming is from March to May due to their relatively cold resistance. Weak trimming is from September to November. In deciduous conifers, the basics are the same: strong trimming from November to February when the leaves fall and weak trimming from March to April or September to October when the temperature is mild.
